What is the difference between factors and multiples when we are talking about multiplication?
The answer is easy! Factors are a list of all of the numbers that can be multiplied to equal a certain number. For example:
4 is a factors of 24, because (4 x 6) = 24.
7 is a factor of 35 because (7 x 5) = 35.
See? Easy. Factors are any numbers that can be multiplied together to make another number.
What are the factors pairs of the number 24?
(1 x 24), (2 x 12), (3 x 8) and (4 x 6)
Finding the multiples of a number are easy too!
The multiples of a certain number are just a list of that number added to itself!
For example, the multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18...
and so on.
Do you see the pattern? Each number goes up by 3!
What are the multiples of 6?
6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48...
You can use a multiplication chart to help you find these multiples. As you get more comfortable with your multiplication chart, you will be able to remember them!
